The Year Ahead
There’s something about a new year and a chance to reflect on the previous year and plan for the year ahead. What are your financial goals for 2019? Have you sat down and thought about it? We give our car a service at least once a year, the same should really be done for our financial plan.
Sometimes we get so distracted by life that things happen and we don’t focus on them in a way that might really benefit. For example, some people get into the swing of making their mortgage repayments and don’t stop to consider if there’s something else they should be doing.
It can also be really beneficial to just stop and take the time to think about where you are headed, and where you want to be heading. Do the two match up? As a financial adviser I often meet people who want to achieve A, but are tracking towards B – and they don’t know it. It’s really important to work this out and address it sooner rather than later.
Whether you’re repaying debt, saving money, saving for a new home, increasing super contributions or looking for investment income, please take some time to carefully think about where you are now, what your financial goals are and how you’re tracking with your financial plan. It’s really important to review your situation regularly and make adjustments as required so you stay on track.
And if you aren’t doing anything in particular or have a vague goal to ‘save more money’? Perhaps look to get more specific with your goals sooner rather than later! How much do you want or need to save and how are you going to go about that? What are the options available to you and how do they work? I’ll be going into more detail on this in my next post.
I’ve just reviewed my personal goals, financial goals and financial plan, and next I’m off to service my car. Here’s to a great 2019!
