What does Genki Mean
I started my financial planning practice in Canberra over a year ago now, and one of the things I get asked regularly is “Why Genki?” Genki is a Japanese word, and having lived in Japan, it means a lot to me and is my absolute favourite word – there is no equivalent in English. It essentially means ‘health’ or ‘vitality’, but in context can be used to mean ‘well’, ‘lively’, ‘energetic’, ‘full of beans’, ‘bouncing off the walls’ and anything in between. It’s such a versatile, positive word. When I think of what an ideal personal financial situation might be, bursting with positive health springs to mind.
So what does ‘bursting with positive health’ mean in a financial context? Here’s a few things that come to mind:
- Income to cover a comfortable lifestyle and the things you enjoy, forever
- The ability to comfortably enjoy your life without feeling financial guilt
- The ability to make big, important financial decisions with confidence
- Being confident in your financial Plan A, as well as knowing that you have a solid Plan B and perhaps even a Plan C
- Having clear long term goals and a clear plan to achieve them
There’s another thing that comes to mind with ‘Genki’ and financial planning. I don’t believe that taking care of your personal finances should be boring, stressful, or something to dread doing. For example going to the dentist is something you may do once a year, dread doing, and be glad when it’s over. That is not how I want my clients to feel about how we work together! I’d like my clients to look forward to and enjoy our catch ups, and come away from them feeling positive, motivated to achieve their goals and confident in their future.
Here at Genki we are a licenced financial planner in Canberra, licenced as a Financial Adviser with ASIC, and we provide professional financial advice. We do things like provide investment advice, consider Estate Planning needs, and review super funds. However that doesn’t mean that we’re an impersonal suit. We are genuinely interested in our clients, their goals, hopes and dreams, and their plans for the future. We want our clients to have a positive financial future, and we want to help them get there. We work to combine the financial aspects of one’s life with the tangible and intangible ‘life’ aspects.
We believe that life is important, with a finite amount of time. We understand that we all have priorities like family, friends, hobbies and travel. Here at Genki Finance in Canberra, we see our role as helping people to get more enjoyment out of their lives by improving their financial health. This in turn can provide extra time or opportunities for people to enjoy the things they love, with the people they are close to.
Genki is here to support, motivate and guide our clients on their journey to positive financial health. We want to help our clients be able to confidently live a comfortable lifestyle and achieve the things important to them. This is something that we’re incredibly passionate about, and extremely proud to be doing.
